Dwarf False Indigo (Baptisia minor)
Legume Family
Love Baptisias, but have a small garden? This is the perfect Baptisia for you! Maxing out at 3’ tall, with blooms, and 2’ wide, this compact species fits nicely into smaller spaces. The trifoliate, blue-green leaves born on sturdy stems add lots of texture when planted singly, or in groups. After flowering, conspicuous pea-like seed pods slowly inflate and turn a striking, dark, metallic gray. Baptisias take 3-4 years to really make their mark in the garden, so be patient! This is a hardy, drought tolerant plant that requires little to no maintenance once established.
