Fresh green, feather-like leaves form a dense mat in the woodland garden. In late spring, blue, bell-shaped flowers emerge over a period of several weeks, providing a continuous nectar and pollen source for early spring bees. This plant can be naturally found in moist, shady woods in rich soil. In the home garden, site in part shade in rich woodsy soil. If planting in more sun, soil must stay consistently moist. Will spread lightly by rhizomes, but spreads more by self-seeding.Try planting with Eastern Columbine, Indian Pink, Fire Pink, Virginia Spiderwort, or Cherokee Sedge.
