    This vining cousin of milkweeds has the characteristic milkweed pod and flower shape, and is also able to host Monarch caterpillars, though it is not a preferred plant. The plant produces star-shaped flowers in colors of purple, yellow, or greenish. Beyond its visual appeal, this vine plays a role in supporting local wildlife. Its dense foliage provides cover and food for small animals and its flowers contribute pollen and nectar for insects. It thrives in a variety of soil types and prefers full sun to partial shade. It does not need to be trellised, but will look neater if allowed to climb off the ground.
