Product Info
Hearts-a-Bustin' (Euonymus americanus)
Bittersweet Family
Hearts-a-Bustin' is a multi-stemmed, upright shrub that typically reaches a height and width of 3 to 6 feet. The foliage is dark green during the growing season and turns a yellow to reddish hue in the fall, adding seasonal interest. It produces small, inconspicuous flowers that are typically greenish-white. The most distinctive feature of this shrub is its fruit. The plant produces small, pink to reddish capsules that open to reveal bright orange seeds. The fruit capsules are ornamental and persist into late autumn, providing visual interest and attracting wildlife. It grows naturally in full to partial shade, but can handle more sun if given adequate moisture--flower and fruit production will also be better in more sun. This shrub is extremely vulnerable to deer browsing.
