    This tall milkweed species will thrive in the shady woodland's edge, or the sunny garden. It will grow best in organically rich soils, but will also adapt to more average clay soil. Flowers are tinged with green and purple and droop attractively down. It is one of the earliest species in North Carolina to bloom.This species is most similar in appearance to common milkweed, but does not form aggressive colonies like common milkweed. It can struggle when initially transplanted, and may go dormant soon after.
