    Bird's foot violet, is a native perennial found in well-drained, sandy, or rocky soils across eastern and central North America. It prefers full sun to partial shade and is adapted to dry, nutrient-poor conditions. This species is characterized by deeply divided leaves and large, showy flowers, typically violet to blue with occasional bicolored forms. Blooming occurs in spring, but often has a second bloom in fall. This violet is considered one of the most attractive, but also one of the most difficult to grow violets. Poor, very well draining soil is key.
