Red Mulberry is a medium size, fast growing, fruit bearing tree native to forests and woodlands across the US. Fruit are very similar to blackberries in taste and color and are prized by wildlife and people alike. While these occur naturally in more shady conditions, they will fruit better in close to full sun. Fruits can be very messy, so its best to plant these away from public pathways or structures. This is the only native mulberry in North Carolina and should not be confused with the very common and invasive White Mulberry.
