Dwarf Crested Iris (Iris cristata)
Iris Family
This diminutive woodland iris will form a thick carpet of purple blooms in early spring. Flowers are short-lived, but the foliage remains attractive throughout the season. Prefers part shade conditions in average to dry soils–that means this could be the plant for that tricky dry shade area. Will spread indefinitely by rhizomes over time. Do not plant too deep–it’s normal and desired to have some of the rhizome above the soil line.
