    Silverrod (Solidago bicolor)
    Aster Family

Silverrod is the only white-flowered Goldenrod on the east coast. Flowers appear on a wand-like structure during late summer and early fall. This species is considered just as beneficial as other species of Goldenrod--meaning it attracts hundreds of different pollinators and other animals with its flowers, foliage, and stems. This is a species that looks great in a woodland garden where it can get 4-6 hours of sun. It tolerates extremely poor, dry soils with high clay and rock content. Silverrod is not considered an aggressive spreader, so is a safe choice for small gardens. Try pairing with Blue Mistflower, Green and Gold, Eastern Columbine, or Cherokee sedge.
