    Great White Trillium (Trillium grandiflorum)
    Trillium Family

This is considered to be one of the largest, showiest, and easiest to grow Trilliums. White flowers are 3-4” across and nod slightly on an erect stem. Flowers can turn light pink with age (rarely, there are flowers that emerge pink). Flowers are followed by large fleshy pods filled with dozens of seeds with elaisomes. Elaisomes are protein rich snacks attached to the seed that are a favorite of ants. Ant dispersal is the primary way this plant spreads to new locations.  Leaves are a pale green that are ~6” long. Grows best in dappled sunlight with rich soil. Can form large colonies over the years if conditions are favorable. This species is more attractive to deer than other species, likely due to the large, highly visible flower. WIll go dormant in mid-summer.
