    Eastern Beebalm (Monarda bradburiana)

    This is the first beebalm to bloom in the spring. Its short, tidy structure, & purple and pink color palette make it a lovely addition to the garden. The flower is made of numerous tube-like structures (corolla) that are typical of beebalm–for this species they are pinkish white with purple dots. Purple bracts surrounding the base of the flowers will remain attractive long after flowering is complete. The seed head maintains a round button form long into winter, giving it 3 season interest. This beebalm gets extra points for being highly resistant to the powdery mildew that so affects other species of the genus and for being a less aggressive spreader.
