Obedient Plant (Physostegia virginiana)
Mint Family
A beautiful and showy plant, but not a plant for the small garden. Obedient plant is a happy spreader and should only be planted in spaces where it can roam freely or naturalize–or try it in a container. It does pull up easily, but you will have to stay on top of it, as regrowth is fast and strong. This wildflower gets its ironic name from the ability to twitch the flowers from side to side and have them stay there. Prefers soil that is a little moist, but drier soils may keep it more in check. This is a great late season nectar source (and pop of color!) for hummingbirds and bees.
