Appalachian Barbara’s-buttons forms 12” clumps of evergreen, dark, glossy green leaves. Pale purple flowers with blue anthers emerge in mid summer and last for several weeks. Naturally found in wet forests and meadows, this plant needs plenty of moisture, rich soil, and sunshine to thrive. Can be grown successfully in containers to achieve optimal soil. This species is extinct in NC and is considered endangered, rare, or vulnerable across its remaining range.
