Product Info
Threadleaf Bluestar (Amsonia hubrichtii)
Dogbane FamilyBluestars begin to emerge in March, starting as green, asparagus-like shoots. Flowers emerge as the shoots are still rising up and before the leaves have fully unfurled. They have true blue flowers that provide an early nectar source for butterflies and long tongue bees. The dense, needle-like foliage are what sets this species apart. Groupings of 3 or more will add a stunning texture to the garden. Stalks remain sturdy and blemish free throughout the summer season, while slowly developing long, skinny seed pods. Leaves will turn a golden yellow in the fall, completing the 3-season glory of this plant. This is a no fuss, long living, easy plant to grow, though it takes ~3 years to really develop. It is very difficult to move or divide once established, so site appropriately!
